In this fun and interactive vocabulary class, we will learn five new vocabulary words each session.🚀📚

🧠✨How Do We Acquire Vocabulary Words?✨🧠

In Vocabulary Builders, we will add new words to our lexicon by following a dynamic process that builds connections to our existing vocabulary:

     🗣️Read the word together and learn its pronunciation and part of speech. 

     📸Look at a picture or video clip that illustrates the meaning of the word. 

     🔄Word connections: Identify synonyms and antonyms. 

     ✏️Write the word to reinforce spelling and familiarity. 

     📝Write the word in a sentence to understand its usage in context. 

     🤸‍♂️Movement to represent the word to engage physical memory (when possible). 

     🎲Optional homework game: We'll have an optional homework game to reinforce our 
     classroom learning.

🌟Why Learn Vocabulary? 🌟

By the end of high school, students should be able to read 40,000 words. This translates to learning about 3,300 words per year or roughly 90 words per week.  Vocabulary Builders is here to help with that acquisition!

Vocabulary acquisition improves reading comprehension. (Anderson and Freebody, 1981)

Vocabulary knowledge in early elementary predicts middle and high school reading levels. (Cunningham and Stanovich, 1997)

We will learn and connect with five new words in each class.

▶️Week of October 7 - collaborate, devise, emerge, formulate, illuminate

▶️Week of October 14 - infer, persevere, maneuver, sustain, nuance

▶️Week of October 21 - rationale, skeptical, assert, innovate, reconcile

▶️Week of October 28 - perplex, exemplify, refute, implicate, exemplify

And so on!  Further weeks will be added as we progress. You are welcome to join the class at any time. ✨
