US Grade 1 - 4
Beginner Level
This class introduces students to veterinary science. Children will learn what the life of a vet is like through the story " I Want to be a Veterinarian by Laura Driscoll". It can be purchased if they desire to. However, it isn't required for this class. After a short reading, we observe and discuss what the veterinarian does at work. I use a story of the life of a vet to explain what being a vet entails. I will cover office personnel, clinic facilities, instruments, and procedures needed to make the animal comfortable when coming to the office. I teach using PPT slides and instructor videos. I also use YouTube videos for specific information and demonstrations. I enjoy teaching children using charts, diagrams, and worksheets. Students may also orally learn parts of various animals by repetition. Students can contact me via Outschool email to communicate any inquiries. Students should have craft tools and coloring utensils for each class session.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about the different types of veterinarians.

Other Details
Parental Guidance
I may refer to a 2-3 minute video.
Some videos are rather graphic. For ex., the farm vet will show how he has to go through the backend of a cow to examine it if it is pregnant. The vet is accompanied by children on the farm which exemplifies how important this examination is to their livelihood.
I may show images of preserved animals. These may be sensitive issues for young children who may be easily frightened.
Scissors may be used on a worksheet provided. Supervision may be required.
Pre-Requisites
A young child should need some assistance if they are a non-reader. Also, they may need someone to help print the materials. Although activities are optional, I do encourage them to do them.
Supply List
Students need a paper or a sketch pad. They should have craft and coloring tools available.
1 file available upon enrollment
