Students can often "get stuck" using the same vocabulary repeatedly in their writing. As an English teacher, I have read "The ancient, old, rusty door" countless times! I'm sure that you too read your child's work and see the same words popping up over and over. These one off lessons will teach alternative vocabulary (synonyms) for the tired and easy choices that students can be in the habit of routinely using when writing to describe. As well as introducing them to a range of impressive vocabulary, we will touch on the etymology of the word (the origin of the word) and exploring how these new words can be used used literally and metaphorically within sentences. We will focus on a single letter of the alphabet for each lesson, empowering students to extend their vocabulary options ( I call this a pocket of possibilities) to enable them to produce innovative, sharper and more sophisticated writing.

Hello everyone. I hope you are all well. I'm really excited about joining Outschool and hopefully meeting with lots of students from all over the world!
I am a qualified Teacher of English (BA Hons/PGCE) and have been teaching English Literature and Language here in England for 20 years. I was the Head of an English Department for many years and continue to teach in secondary schools (11-16 year olds) in Nottingham. I also mark GCSE English Language exams for one of the main exam boards.
My excellent subject knowledge allows me to offer a wide range of classes: poetry studies, Shakespeare's soliloquies and creative writing to name a few!
I relish the challenge of encouraging all students of all abilities to work with positive attitudes and make strong progress. I have a sincere belief in the need to balance spontaneity with structure. Whilst maintaining focus on the planned learning outcomes, the ability to respond and adapt is essential.レビュー
