The course outline with topics of coverage is below. Classes are 45 minutes in length and meet twice per week. 1. Students will understand the causes, course, and consequences of the Civil War and Reconstruction and its effects on the American people. 2. Students will identify settlement patterns in the American West, the reservation system, and/or the tribulations of the Indigenous People from 1865-90. 3. Analyze the transformation of the American economy and the changing social and political conditions in response to the Industrial Revolution. 4. Demonstrate an understanding of the changing role of the United States in world affairs through the end of World War I. 5. Analyze the effects of the changing social, political, and economic conditions of the Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression. 6. Examine causes, course, and consequences of the Great Depression and the New Deal.
I have 30+ years of teaching experience, which includes 25 years of teaching history and government to high school-age students. I take special care to use historical evidence and facts when teaching history and especially about marginalized groups and controversial topics.
