このクラスで学べること
In this continuing education portion of my ukulele instructional series, students with considerable knowledge and experience with playing the ukulele (most of whom have already completed up to Part 10 in my series) will learn more on how to play advanced chords, complex strumming rhythms, and produce special effects while exploring different cultural music styles using PG songs on the ukulele instrument. Please note that the class maximum is 2 and not 1, in the case that two students decide to take this course together with parental approval (e.g. friends, siblings, relatives, etc.). However, if only one student signs up, I (the teacher) will immediately change that course listing/schedule to "PRIVATE", to ensure that only that one student takes the class with me. In each class, we will begin by reviewing the basic chord fingerings, strumming patterns, and chord notations for the music selections for that week. Then we will move on to practicing and performing the series of songs. Students will be taught how to strum in different rhythms to match each song tempo (example: DDU-UDU), as well as review and learn different types of chords and their finger positions (example: C#m7, Bb, A#, etc.). Students will also be introduced to different music styles featured in different cultural elements of our modern world, as well as gain knowledge in reading and performing these styles of ukulele music in a private setting. As this class is in an ongoing course format, concepts taught within this course will not build upon previous weeks nor will they be presented a sequential curriculum. **We will be playing popular, modern (but clean and PG) songs from the very first lesson; and although I have many music selections in my repertoire, I encourage students to request any song that they want to learn or love to listen to.** It is my goal to make the learning process fun, and encourage students to sing and participate by allowing each member to take turns strumming/playing their instrument at appropriate times during the lesson. Music is supposed to be enjoyable, and learning is easier when students are having a blast. Be sure to send me a message with any artist/song that the student likes and I will do everything I can to include something from it in the lesson content during our course. **NOTE: Please ensure that the student comes to each class (except perhaps the first lesson) with their instrument tuned. It is imperative that the student has a freshly tuned instrument before practicing or attending a lesson in order to ensure maximum instructional effectiveness and new skill retention.** The Weekly Course Schedule: Week of 19 February: Review of General Knowledge and Basic Concepts Week of 26 February: Learn and Perform New Chords and Strumming Techniques Week of 5 March: Fingerpicking Notation and Performance Week of 12 March: Mixed Method Music (chords and fingerpicking in the same song) Week of 19 March: Talent Showcase Performance with Student-led Music Choices Week of 26 March: Knowledge Review- Strumming Patterns, Rhythm and Meter, etc. Week of 2 April: Poetry and Prose- Analysing Famous Ballads from the Past Week of 9 April: Fancy Fingers- Fingerstyle Strumming Rhythms Week of 16 April: Smashing the Beat- Exploring Rock Music Styles Week of 23 April: Set the Beat - Establishing Rhythms in Modern Music Week of 30 April: Play by Ear - Intuitive and Emotive Music Themes Week of 7 May: Knowledge Review and Student Music Requests Week of 14 May: "Chucking [X]" or Muted Strings Week of 21 May: Percussive Techniques (Finger Roll and Golpe Strumming) Week of 28 May: Final Review and Talent Showcase Performance **Disclaimer: All music played and performed in class will be PG and/or heavily censored to ensure a safe and wholesome experience for the student.**
学習到達目標
The student will learn and improve upon their musical ability with playing the ukulele by learning unique and complex strumming techniques. Singing along to the melody is heavily encouraged, although it is not necessarily a part of the curriculum. Singing or humming the tune is helpful to many students during practice/performance.

教師の専門知識と資格
I have experience teaching students ranging from grade school ages into adulthood, tutoring 1-on-1, and teaching large groups. I was a language and art/music teacher in Europe for about a year, while traveling around Europe and the UK, where students came to learn English and study various topics through theatre and play activities. In the past, I've also taught kindergarten through 5th grade students in a US public school, and I taught ESL online for nearly 3 years as a certified teacher.
I graduated in 2017 from Georgia Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts. I am currently studying front-end web design while working as a private tutor and website creator. In my free time, I enjoy playing music on my ukulele, travel photography, and baking. I have a passion for all forms of art and the creative process that comes with it.
Whatever my current situation may be, I feel motivated to empower young students to realize their academic and creative potential through meaningful play and personal mentorship. I am looking forward to creating fun and productive courses through Outschool and I look forward to seeing you in my classroom soon!
