Each tutoring session will be developed and planned for your individual child in reading and writing. Potential topics that may be covered included:

 -Phonics (a method of teaching children to read by connecting the sounds of spoken English to letters or groups of letters)

-Phonemic Awareness (the ability to identify and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken word)

-Appropriate individual level reading

-Writing (letters, sight words, dictated sentences, narrative, opinion and/or informational)

-A combination of reading and writing

-Vocabulary focus

-Comprehension (reading) focus

To find the best spot to start for your child, informal assessments can be given, and then my lessons will be developed around the information gathered.  Assessments could included letter recognition, dictated sentence, reading an appropriate leveled book to me (all will be provided). This is a standardized test that is a resource from Pioneer Valley Literacy Footprints Digital Reader. 

I have a warm, flexible, empathic teaching style. My strength is working with children ages 3-10.  I like to encourage student led learning while still being able to drive your child’s growth. I work as a reading interventionist in a public school, and work with students 1-1 and in small groups. I have 11 years of teaching experience in public schools and 14 years overall. 

Based on the Information gathered about your child, I will develop individualized lessons for each session, and they will build on each other. I won’t set a curriculum because my teaching is student oriented and led.

I used a digital reader called Literacy Footprints to access a library of thousands of books with various topics and ability levels.
