This class will focus on the strategies adding/subtracting zero, counting back, counting on, friends of ten, doubles adding and subtracting, doubles plus 1 and addition Commutative Property. These strategies will be learned through interactive hands on learning with M & Ms or another counter like manipulative. These strategies are essential for 1st graders going into 2nd grade and those 2nd graders moving on to 2 digit addition and subtraction. This class will provide the practice needed to improve a student's mental math in regards to addition and subtraction facts. We will end the section with games to review all of our strategies! 

** Classes may be added to fit the needs of the students in this class.

Hello and Welcome to my profile page! I am an elementary school teacher of 22 years. I have been an online teacher and a stay at home mom for 3 years. I have been married for 25 years and have 2 daughters ages 23 and 19. I also have a basset hound named Melody. I enjoy crafting with my Cricut, cooking/baking and road trips with the family. 

I graduated from Texas State University with a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Specialization in Math. For 21 years I worked with Title I students. I worked with children that have Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, Special Ed accommodations and GT students. I was also a Girl Scout leader for several years for my daughters. 

I am currently teaching online with VIPKID as an ESL teacher. It has been an awesome experience sharing the English Language with the students. 

My hope as a teacher is to build a sense of belonging to a group, where students can express themselves in a safe space. I want students to feel they can take chances with their learning and ask the questions no one wants to ask. 

My favorite color is purple. My bedroom growing up was lavender and my bridesmaids wore deep purple in my wedding. 

I can't wait to see all of your smiling faces in class!
