Come learn about the wild horses that live on Sable Island! We will use geography skills to locate where Sable Island is located. From there, we will explore the interesting history of the feral horses on the island. Topics will include how the horses got to the island, and what breeds make up the horses. We will learn about how a group of children saved these horses from extinction. Common characteristics of the ponies will be discussed. The class will explore what the horses eat on the island, and what other wildlife shares their space. This class follows a lecture and discussion format using pictures and slides. There are little pop up quizzes along the way. Participation through discussion is encouraged, but not required.

Hello! My name is Amy Rovtar Payne. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education, and have previously taught in the school system for several years. I live on a farm with lots of animals, where I follow my passion of training feral mustangs. I am a certified horseback riding instructor and enjoy teaching others to ride. When my schedule allows, I judge horse shows. I actively compete and am a title holder in dog sports such as agility, nosework, obedience and rally. I am studying to become an agility judge with the UKI. Currently I also work in a canine rehab center, where I lead hydrotherapy sessions and am a certified laser technician. Another one of my hobbies is writing, and I am a published author of non-fiction and poetry. I'm excited to share my knowledge with others!
