このクラスで学べること

Treasure hunters wanted!

Come join this fun show-and-tell activity, but with a twist!

Learners will be given a random object to find from around their surroundings and share their "treasures" with the class.

I will randomly select cards from a box that will describe the object needed.
Examples include:

Find-
something funny
something squishy
something you can wear on your head
something shaped like a cone
your favorite stuffed animal

and so much more!

Learners may want to take turns coming up with items to look for, so that can be implemented into class time as well.

Learners are encouraged to make polite comments and ask each other questions about the treasures found.

This play-based learning activity includes several skills wrapped into one exciting game.
Some of the many skills included are:

Public speaking
Vocabulary
Building confidence
Art and creativity
Making connections with others
Taking turns
Listening
Observing
On-the-spot thinking

There will be no weekly theme because this class is mainly learner directed.

This course does not promote the use of weapons, acts of exclusion, or bullying.

We will follow Outschool's code of conduct.

Hello!

Welcome to my teaching profile! My name is Brittany Atkins.

I have been an early childhood educator for about 15 years, providing education and care as a nanny, nursery and pre-school teacher, ESL teacher, and babysitter.

I have a bachelor’s degree in human services (similar to social work and human development) with several credit hours in education and child development.

I’m a cat-mom to two Bengal cats and live in the countryside where I see lots of wild animals. My cats and the wild animals around me inspired me to study about animals. As an educator and animal lover, I now share my passion for animals with zoology classes on Outschool.

I’m a neurodivergent teacher, so I understand the importance of being patient, kind, understanding, and respectful towards all learners. Adults in charge of a learner's account are always welcome to message me about any questions or concerns.

My lessons naturally involve socialization because I teach about animals. Usually learners like to share their thoughts and opinions about the animals I teach about in class, talk about their pets, bring show-and-tell items, and mention the different types of animals they've seen.

I am not strict about a learner's involvement due to the needs, preferences, and backgrounds of every learner being different.

Learners are not forced to keep their videos on after check in, can choose only to listen into the class discussions, use the chat function, may use fidget gadgets, and learners do not have to ask for permission to be excused for a moment.

I do not believe that education should be "one way teaches all."

To protect and respect the privacy of learners, I will not share recordings. Please contact me to come up with other solutions if needed.
