組分け帽子（ハリー・ポッターのキャラクター分析）

In this class, students will have a great time while learning how to analyze characters! This class will be focused on analyzing characters from Harry Potter. Students do need some knowledge of Harry Potter to take this class. It would be best for them if they have read the first book: Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone. It is fine if they have read more than the first book! 

This class will begin with students hearing the me sing 🎤  the sorting hats song about the different houses. Each house at Hogwarts is designed for students with particular character traits. Gryffindors are known for being brave, loyal, and adventurous, but Gryffindors can often get themselves into trouble! Ravenclaws are wise, creative, and clever; sometimes they can come off as know-it-alls. Hufflepuffs value hard-work, fairness, and kindness; they can be too nice for their own good. Slytherins are known to be ambitious, determined, and resourceful. However, they can also be quite cunning and prideful. Each house has positive character traits and negative character traits. Students will use the sorting hat song to determine these character traits for themselves. 

Next students will analyze themselves as a character by taking a sorting hat quiz online! This quiz will sort them into their houses and they can determine if all of their character traits match with the house they were sorted into. Often analyzing yourself as a character both allows students for self-reflection and a personal connection to character analysis. At this point, students can override the online tests assessment of them, if they wish and can support it through character analysis, and determine their final house! Students will support different character traits by using examples from their lives. For example, "I am brave because I rock climb and always like to try harder walls." Or, "I am determined because reading was really hard for me, but I kept trying until I could read!" 

After analyzing themselves, students will turn to various well-known characters in the text. Students will answer: what are their character traits? Students will find evidence in the text that supports their analysis of the character. Then, students will answer the questions: were the characters properly sorted based on their analysis? Finally, if time permits, students will create their own HP character with unique traits and determine the house he would be sorted into.
