Does your learner enjoy a good story? This book is great if you need a structured literature exploration this summer. Your advanced reader will explore a classic book by Francis Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden. Learners will read and complete independent reading, and meet daily to interpret their reading with Mrs. Gail. Your learner will gain valuable skills that can be transferred to any literature they will read in the future. Response homework will facilitate reading for meaning. We will discuss and share vocabulary, literature devices, figures of speech, character and plot development, writing responses, summary skills, author's purpose and genre, text connections, and inferences. We will cite text evidence to support discussion. Week 1: The Secret Garden Chapters 1-7 Week 2: The Secret Garden Chapters 8-13 Week 3: The Secret Garden Chapters 14-21 Week 4: The Secret Garden Chapters 22-27 (Finish) Your learner will read an average of at least fifteen to twenty-five pages a day throughout this course. Your learner may read ahead, but be ready for the current daily discussion. Your learner will receive a certificate of completion of this literary work at the end of the course.

Mary is sent away because of a catastrophe, which includes losing her parents. She is lonely and depressed at the change in her life, and even changes the country where she lives. Language of the author's time is also used with different connotation than is known today.

Classic literature we read today has "stood the test of time." References, movies, and images that appear in everyday life from these books are intwined in part of our culture because of deep meaning these writers have evoked over the decades and centuries. I hold a current MA Ed. and enjoy watching students discover as they read quality material. I have taught and tutored reading across all grade levels K-12 since 1996.レビュー
