In this class, we’ll be taking specific components of breaststroke and practicing them on land. These stroke-specific exercises/movements develop muscle memory and proper technique.

Our classes will be different each time but we will focus on the following throughout the course;

1. Head position (body position)
2.  Proper pull path
3.  Proper kick
4.  Timing

We’ll take the key performance factors of breaststroke and do movements that help your swimmer understand why form is important and how doing it properly makes a difference with regard to efficiency, propulsion and drag. Swimming really is all about science.

What you can expect from each class;

2-3 minutes of activation (warming up the body)
5-8 minutes of review
15-20 minutes new concept

Parental Guidance
Safety is always the top priority when doing anything physical. The movements we’ll be doing are not usually strenuous but I caution my athletes before each class to stop and tell me if they feel any pain. Please make sure that you have an open, uncluttered space for the athlete to move freely (no coffee tables, nothing lying around that could be tripped over). Please have your athlete wear appropriate footwear and clothes for exercising. Have a yoga mat if your athlete will be working on a hard surface. It is important for your athlete to follow directions and work at my pace. I will be using YouTube videos at times. No subscription is required. All content is suitable for children.
Pre-Requisites

I have 8 years of coaching experience and I’m also an elementary school teacher. I’m a certified level 1 swim coach and have am trained at level 2. I’m the head coach of our swim club and I train swimmers on all 4 competitive strokes (backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle), starts and turns.

I have done zoom dry land sessions for the athletes in my club. Not only have I found these sessions effective in improving and correcting technique and developing muscle memory to form good habits in the pool but they have correlated to faster swim times in competitions.
