We'll be enjoying reading and discussing novels that feature rebellious characters in this book club for teens! The class is comprised of teacher presentation and learner participation. On the course in general: The books in this course touch on sensitive topics at times. Most are about adolescent characters who are navigating the difficulties of growing up against social odds. To that end, I have over 25 years of experience teaching adolescents texts such as these in in-person and online classroom settings. In my classes I create a safe place to discuss sensitive topics and begin every class with my stated "guidelines" that include "participate politely" and "respond respectfully" and offer examples of what this looks like. I am committed to equality and social justice and to engaging teens in conversations that help them to see the complexities of "coming of age".
