In this one time class, we will take a look at the life, education, and many contributions that Helen Keller and her teacher, Anne Sullivan, made. We will start with Anne's childhood, illnesses, and education, and then compare them to Helen's. We will explore how Anne was able to teach Helen to communicate, attending the Perkins Institute for the Blind, going to college, and their whirlwind world adventures for the next several decades. We will take a look at some of their accomplishments and how they were received by the public. The first part of the class will consist of a powerpoint presentation that will include a detailed look at her childhood, education, travels, and contributions to those who were also deaf and blind. We will take a look at a few videos, including one where Annie Sullivan explains how Helen talks. The last 10-15 minutes of class will be an open discussion of what we have learned and answer any questions that the students may have.
