Students will read assigned chapters of  The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins independently between meetings.  No reading required before meeting one; students will read assigned pages before each of the following meetings and come to the meeting with discussion questions covering the assigned reading.
Meeting one: What makes a good discussion question? Lesson will model the 4 types of questions: Right There, Putting it Together, Author and Me, and On My Own.  Students will recognize the Author and Me and On My Own Questions as the best types of questions for facilitating discussion:
Meeting two: Students will independently read chapters 1-5 in The Hunger Games and develop 2-3 appropriate discussion questions BEFORE session in order to participate in student led discussion during the meeting.
Meeting three: Students will independently read chapters 6-11 in The Hunger Games and develop 2-3 appropriate discussion questions BEFORE session in order to participate in student led discussion during the meeting.
Meeting four: Students will independently read chapters 12-17 in The Hunger Games and develop 2-3 appropriate discussion questions BEFORE session in order to participate in student led discussion during the meeting.
Meeting five: Students will independently read chapters 18-22 in The Hunger Games and develop 2-3 appropriate discussion questions BEFORE session in order to participate in student led discussion during the meeting.
Meeting six: Students will independently read chapters 23-27 in The Hunger Games and develop 2-3 appropriate discussion questions BEFORE session in order to participate in student led discussion during the meeting.
