In this class, we will be learning techniques for mixed-media art and creating Art Journals. The first few classes will focus on preparation, and after that, we will be focusing on a singular technique or project each week. Although the first four classes are related, they are not mandatory prerequisites to journaling. These same topics will be revisited often during the ongoing processes of the group. The first four sessions are: Week of 4/18: What is Mixed-Media Art Journaling? : An...
Students will learn different artistic techniques using a variety of supplies, and will use them, if they wish, to create pages in an Art Journal.
Every week I will provide a list of supplies I use for the week's mini-lesson. These will vary widely. Please do not feel as if you need to purchase every art supply or spring for the most expensive supplies. The list of possibilities is endless and can add up quickly. Many Art and Crafts stores have regular sales. I suggest signing up through store apps or online to receive coupons and discounts. Inexpensive supplies can also be purchased at Wal*Mart, Costco, or even the Dollar Store. At minimum, it is suggested that learners have a kit containing: A journal/notebook containing sturdy paper, such as mixed media or watercolor paper of any size. (Loose paper is also okay, but it's harder to keep it all together.) Pencils, a good eraser, and a fine-tipped black pen A white gel pen Paints: watercolors and/or some acrylic paints (craft paints are fine) Paintbrushes Markers an ink pad (black is best) Glue stick and/or double sided tape a decent pair of scissors ( close to hand size with pointy tips is best for precise cutting) Magazines or printed out pictures from the internet, and a collection of any kind of papers: colored, white, tissue, wrapping, printed, big, small, construction, origami, whatever! An old gift card or similar sized card (to get wrinkles out when you glue paper) A big envelope to hold cut out pictures and other stuff for collage.

I utilize a wide variety of sources as references when preparing for my classes, including books, YouTube videos and tutorials, as well as personal experimentation. I am happy to provide recommendations and resources, and will likely do so in the course of the lessons. Any such resources will also be posted to the classroom.
I am a polymath, a person who has many interests and loves all kinds of learning, over many subjects. I am also an auto-didact: I love to learn on my own. so very likely, I'm a lot like you. I have taught many subjects, but some of my favorites...
