This is a one-on-one opportunity with only one student enrolled in each section. The student will be reading to an American Bulldog named Duke. Reading to an animal provides a safe listening environment that reaps many benefits. Research suggests that reading to animals can lead to increased confidence and strengthening of reading fluency (i.e. reading speed and phrasing). I will step in to assist a child who is struggling only if they ask for help with a word. By not constantly...

Student should bring to class: - at least 1 book to read aloud to Duke. (This book should be one that the student is able and willing to read aloud.)
