自然における対称性 - 左右対称と放射状対称

この 2 週間のコースでは、生徒は自然界の動物や植物の写真を比較し、それぞれの対称性に関するアート プロジェクトを完了することで、左右対称と放射対称性の違いを学びます。

In this two week course students will learn the differences between bilateral and radial symmetry. The students will be shown examples from nature that illustrate each type of symmetry. The students will then complete an art project to help reinforce the design principles they learn about bilateral and radial symmetry. Week one will focus on bilateral symmetry and students will complete a butterfly symmetry puzzle art project. Week two will focus on radial symmetry and students will complete a radial symmetry design project.

Week 1- Bilateral Symmetry: This class will be divided into introduction, teacher instruction, guided practices, and independent practice. For the introduction, the students with introduce themselves to the class and the teacher. The teacher will also use this time to gauge the students prior knowledge about the topic. For teacher instruction, the teacher will introduce the term symmetry and introduce the two types: bilateral and radial symmetry. The teacher will let the students know that they will be learning about bilateral symmetry during this class. The teacher will show a power point presentation to define bilateral symmetry and give examples of bilateral symmetry found in nature. For guided practice, students will then be shown different images and be asked if the image has bilateral symmetry or not, to make sure students are able to identify it correctly. Students will then be asked to complete the Bilateral Butterfly Puzzle. The students will cut out puzzle pieces to complete the empty side on one of the butterfly wings to make it symmetrical to the butterfly wing that is already decorated. The teacher will help them complete a few pieces together before having the students complete the puzzle on their own for independent practice. The students will be given a chance to decorate and color their butterfly, making sure they color each piece the same on both wings to make it have bilateral symmetry. The students will share their final project at the end of class with the rest of the students.

Week 2- Radial Symmetry: This class will be divided into review, teacher instruction, guided practices, and independent practice. For review, the students will review what bilateral symmetry is and give examples of bilateral symmetry found in nature. For teacher instruction, the teacher will introduce the term symmetry and introduce the two types: bilateral and radial symmetry. The teacher will let the students know that they will be learning about radial symmetry during this class. The teacher will show a power point presentation to define radial symmetry and give examples of radial symmetry found in nature. For guided practice, students will then be shown different images and be asked if the image has bilateral symmetry or radial symmetry, to make sure students are able to identify both correctly. Students will then be asked to complete the Radial Symmetry Project. The students will cut out radial symmetry circle. The teacher will demonstrate how to complete each slice of the circle with exactly the same design coming out from the center to complete their design correctly. For independent practice, the students will be given a chance to decorate and color their butterfly, making sure they color each piece the same on both wings to make it have bilateral symmetry. The students will share their final project at the end of class with the rest of the students.

I taught sixth grade math for four years. I am passionate about helping students learn new math skills while making it fun and engaging. As a teacher, I make sure to create standard-based lessons that help students to learn the curriculum while making it fun to learn!

Hello! My name is Olivia Schuster and I am so excited to get to teach you! I taught at a private school for five years: one year in second grade and four years in sixth grade. While teaching sixth grade, I helped pilot and implement a new Common Core curriculum, as well as introduce, teach, and lead the Science Fair for the entire sixth grade. I also created science labs and math activities to help enhance curriculum and meet the standards. I also taught English to Chinese student online for a little over a year, so I am very familiar with teaching students through an video chat format.

Due to a recent move, I am now a stay-at-home mom to my two wonderful daughters, age 3 and age 1. Instead of being just a stay-at-home mom, I like to call myself a stay-at-home teacher. I love teaching and am excited to teach students (other than my own kids) again!

My desire as a teacher is to create a learning environment where students can learn through their own discovery. Through engaging and creative standard based lesson plans I want to instill in my students a passion for learning. My expertise and experience enables me to reach each student at their own level and promote the idea of being a life-long learner while having fun. I am excited to meet you and to teach you very soon!
