In this year long "mystery" reading, "mystery" solving Book Club, learners are super sleuths who are introduced to fascinating characters, plots, cases, transported to exciting settings, given clues where they solve mystery after mystery. Reading, writing and critical thinking is used weekly to help solve each mystery and adventure.

WELCOME Super Sleuths to the world of mystery and intrigue. Learners will solve mysteries from exciting and engaging books written by the best children mystery authors today. Learners from 9-13 years old will meet 1X a week for semester 1 [18 weeks] the semester 2 [18 weeks] and throughout the summer, too, to discuss and solve various mysteries. These are chapter books so learners will be given instructions on what chapters and pages to read BEFORE coming to class. From time-to-time we will read multiple books from the same author, but for the most part, learners will be introduced to a number of different authors and their different writing styles. Each book stands alone and we cover several throughout the semester. This Book Club is a year long club, broken into two semesters with meeting dates that correspond to the typical school year with breaks at standard holidays. With enough interest, we'll continue fun reading throughout the summer.

Super Sleuths must read at home, outside class BEFORE they come. This will allow the entire class time to be dedicated to discussion, questions, fun activities related to the mystery we are solving and social interaction with the other learners in our mystery book club. Along with reading, learners will engage in critical thinking, finding and interpreting clues, problem solving, logical deductions, geography, writing, note taking, sharing points of view, giving opinions and summaries of chapters and book read, discuss favorite part/s of the story, learn about inference, prediction, character analysis, and how they would change the characters, events and even the ending of the story. With the interaction and discussions among the other Super Sleuths in our Club, Super Sleuths can discuss ideas for a mystery idea they might have and may even begin writing their own "mystery." What a great forum to express their ideas!

Super Sleuths Mystery Adventure Reading Book Club is THE mystery book club to join. We'll be here every week, 1X a week solving mystery after mystery and having fun doing it. We'll continue every week through the entire year, including summer [Semesters 1, 2 and a summer session]. I don't think we'll be able to exhaust the list of intriguing mystery books, so come join us if you're a super sleuth and mystery buff! or just intrigued. You will enjoy every mystery rewarding experience with every book.

*** NOTE: Learners can enroll at any time throughout the semester. Learners will be required to read previously assigned chapters in order to be up-to-date to participate in ongoing class discussions.

Just a few basic rules for our mystery reading book club:
○ learners are to read a hard/soft copy of each book, NOT listen to an audio book
○ learners are to bring the book to each club meeting as they will be asked to read aloud specific sections, paragraphs from time-to-time, and/or find written evidence from the text to support their answer
○ learners must read the chapters and pages assigned BEFORE coming to class
○ learners should be ready to share with other learners and work in a friendly, cooperative manner
○ learners are NOT to read ahead of our schedule so that we can all enjoy each story/book together and be prepared to discuss [not give away] only what has been assigned

I LOVE reading! and reading to others, especially children. As a Principal and educator of 50+ years, I always read in my classroom, as Tutor, volunteer teacher around the world and as a Principal to large groups of students at a time. Additionally, I was trained via classes at the Los Angeles Music Center on story telling methods. Who doesn't like a good mystery book? As a precocious reader I was known as Lady Snoop in my younger years and friends still call me that today. I love reading a good mystery and hope my enthusiasm rubs off on each Super Sleuth who enrolls with me in Super Sleuths Mystery Adventure Reading Book Club.
