The kids will be REQUIRED to comment every week: 1) CREATE their OWN SUPER MARIO math addition and/or subtraction problem that can be as simple as 3 + 5 = ? or write their own WORD PROBLEM using SUPER MARIO characters and items (get creative!) and type it into the comment section. (In doing this, the kids have a chance to see their OWN Super Mario problem appear in the next week's escape room level since I will be going through the comments and possibly picking a few questions to include every week!) I am so excited to read all their responses! **Optional: The kids can then respond to other kid's comments and try to answer the problems that other kids create. I will also be commenting back as well to all the kids in the comment section to engage with them.テスト
(See Homework above) I will assess the kids on their understanding of the math because I am able to log into google forms each week and see all the kids' responses and how accurate they were on their math. If I see that there is a problem that some or all the kids are struggling with, I will GO over that specific problem in the next weeks' video. The kids will also be able to check their own math informally in the escape room if they click on the answer and if it is CORRECT or incorrect, another screen will pop up that tells them if they got it right or wrong. My hope is the kids' will become independent in checking their own work and going back to correct their mistakes. I wanted to make my most popular class now a FLEX class! The kids will complete a FUN Super Mario escape room that is easy to navigate and very SIMILAR to my LIVE SUPER MARIO CLASS platform. This escape room format will be in google slides and/or google forms, very similar to my LIVE Super Mario class, with the exception that we will NOT meet over zoom and the kids will complete this on their own. I will post the link each week for the kids to access. **THIS IS NOT A LIVE CLASS I will include a short video introduction every week to go over directions for them and then provide the link for them to complete on their own. REQUIRED for them is to comment weekly in the comment section and create their own SUPER MARIO addition and/or subtraction problem for other kids to answer. This is where they can get CREATIVE and have FUN with their questions. I look forward to reading all the comments weekly! Also, I will be CHOOSING problems that the kids create to put into the next week's LEVEL! This is where the kids will see their work used in my classroom and hopefully feel a sense of ownership that they contributed to the ESCAPE rooms! *Recommended but not necessary is to take my LIVE class first and then sign up for these FLEX classes for additional practice and fun. WEEK 1: Super Mario Escape room #1 level 1 Acorn Plains (google slides) -- same exact format as my SUPER MARIO LIVE class with NEW and different questions! WEEK 2: Super Mario Escape room #2 level 2 Power ups! (google forms) WEEK 3: Super Mario escape #3 level 3 Mario in the classroom! WEEK 4: Super Mario escape #4 level 4 BOWSER LEVEL! **THIS IS NOT A LIVE CLASS The kids will answer questions that will review their addition and subtraction knowledge as well as include word problems that they have to decipher and complete in order to save Princess Peach. All questions will align with the state learning standards for mathematics for 1st graders.

Hi! My name is Anna Hwang, and I used to teach secondary math (secondary education endorsement grades 6-12 and masters degree in curriculum and instruction). Professionally I have worked in the classroom for 2 years before having my own kids (ages 6 and 8). I have also tutored kids of all ages but especially have worked with kids 15 - 18 years old in the subject areas of Algebra, Algebra 2, Geometry, & Trigonometry, and ACT/SAT prep for mathematics. I have also worked for many tutoring companies (including Huntington, ACT/SAT prep) before before private tutoring myself. I really enjoy working with kids one on one and developing a trusting relationship with them through the learning of mathematics and helping them to feel confident in math.
Pre-COVID, I also volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and a youth group leader at my church and have experience working with kids for the past 10 years. Now as a mom to my own two kids, I have a whole new perspective to teaching altogether.
During this trying time, I felt a calling to step up and help kids of all ages feel successful and to have FUN with math learning. My own kids were remotely learning for a year and at times I see the struggle of teachers trying to teach math online. I want to step up and help and offer support the only way I know how. I am intrigued by this new world of ONLINE teaching and am excited to start my own journey back into teaching. I want ALL kids to feel encouraged and to have FUN and engaged with each lesson. I will try my best to create an online environment that supports ALL kids and help them further their understanding with math concepts.
Aside from teaching mathematics, I also have a passion for art, dance, and music.
