Get Ready for 2nd Grade!-  This is a comprehensive program designed to help children transition from first grade to second grade. The workshop will focus on developing key skills in reading, writing, math, and social-emotional learning, all while having fun!

During the workshop, students will engage in a variety of activities, including hands-on projects, interactive games, and exercises. 

The workshop will cover the following areas:

Reading: Students will work on building their reading comprehension skills, including understanding main ideas, making inferences, and identifying literary elements such as plot, character, and setting. They will also work on building their vocabulary and developing their fluency.

Writing: Students will work on developing their writing skills, including learning how to write complete sentences, paragraphs, and stories. They will also work on improving their spelling and grammar.

Math: Students will work on developing their math skills, including learning addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They will also work on problem-solving and critical thinking.

Social-Emotional Learning: Students will learn important social-emotional skills, such as empathy, self-awareness, and self-regulation. They will also learn how to work collaboratively with others and how to develop positive relationships.

At the end of the workshop, students will have a better understanding of what to expect in second grade and will be better prepared to succeed academically and socially.

Weekly breakdown:

Week of July 10th:

Day 1: Reading - Review of first-grade phonics and sight words; Writing - Introduction to sentence structure and paragraph development
Day 2: Math - Review of first-grade addition and subtraction; Social-Emotional Learning - Introduction to self-awareness and self-regulation

Week of July 17th:

Day 1: Reading - Introduction to identifying literary elements; Math - Introduction to multiplication and division
Day 2: Writing - Introduction to writing stories; Social-Emotional Learning - Introduction to empathy and understanding others' perspectives

Week of July 24th:

Day 1: Reading - Introduction to main ideas and supporting details; Math - Review of first-grade addition and subtraction
Day 2: Writing - Introduction to writing descriptive paragraphs; Social-Emotional Learning - Introduction to problem-solving and decision-making

Week of July 31st:

Day 1: Reading - Review of identifying literary elements; Math - Introduction to problem-solving and critical thinking
Day 2: Writing - Introduction to writing opinion pieces; Social-Emotional Learning - Introduction to communication and collaboration

Week of August 7th:

Day 1: Reading - Introduction to making inferences; Math - Introduction to geometry and measurement
Day 2: Writing - Introduction to writing informative pieces; Social-Emotional Learning - Introduction to self-reflection and goal-setting

Week of August 14th:

Day 1: Reading - Review of main ideas and supporting details; Math - Review of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
Day 2: Writing - Introduction to revising and editing; Social-Emotional Learning - Project-based learning activity focused on teamwork and leadership

Project-Based Learning Activities:

Reading and Writing - Create a storybook: Students will work in small groups to write and illustrate a storybook, applying the skills they have learned in reading and writing throughout the workshop.

Math and Social-Emotional Learning - Plan a party: Students will work in small groups to plan a party, applying the math skills they have learned in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as the social-emotional skills they have learned in communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Writing and Social-Emotional Learning - Write a letter to a pen pal: Students will work independently to write a letter to a pen pal, applying the writing skills they have learned in sentence structure, paragraph development, and revision/editing, as well as the social-emotional skills they have learned in empathy, communication, and understanding others' perspectives.

Note: Each day's activities will be tailored to the needs and abilities of the students, and teachers may adjust the curriculum as necessary.
