Summer Reading Club: Second Grade is a structured reading group for students who will be entering Second Grade in the fall. The students will participate in a small group reading lesson by a certified early childhood teacher with a Master's degree in Reading and Literacy. The students will participate in phonemic awareness and phonics activities, build sight word and vocabulary knowledge, read (students will take turn reading sentences out loud in class with teacher support), comprehension activities, and writing. #academic

Class Structure:
Phonemic Awareness & Phonics
Sight Words/Vocabulary
Reading - students will be asked to read out loud in class
Comprehension Activities
Writing

Prerequisite:
Students should know letters and sounds.
Student can read some sentences with ease.
Students should be able to read cvc words with ease.
Students should be able to read long vowel words (ride, cake) with ease.

*Although this class is labeled Second Grade, the class is open to any student who is reading on a beginning Second Grade level (GRL H/I). Feel free to message the teacher to help determine which class level is perfect for your student.

Week 1: Phonics Skill: Ending Blends -ft, -ld, -lp, -lf, -lk, & -lt
              Sight Words: left, help, would, could, should, milk
Week 2: Phonics Skill: Ending Blends -nd, -nt, -mp, -sk, -st, & -sp
              Sight Words: land, jump, went, find, kind, ask, best, fast, ust, last, list, ust, want
Week 3: Phonics Skill: Ending Blends -pt, -lm, -ct, -xt, & -all
              Sight Words: nxt, smal, call, fall, shall
Week 4: Phonics Skill: Endings -ull, -oll, -nk
              Sight Words: pull, full, think, thank
Week 5: Phonics Skill: Endings ng, Endings Review
              Sight Words: brinkg, king, thing, long, song, along
Week 6:  Phonics Skill: R-Controlled Vowels -ar & -or
              Sight Words: start, far, warm, part, work, word, world
Week 7: Phonics Skill: R-Controlled Vowels -er & -ir
              Sight Words: after, under, over water, other, mother, better, first
Week 8: Phonics Skill: R-Controlled Vowels -ur, -ure, -oar, & -oor
