The goal of this class is to help students review and practice 3rd grade math skills in order to feel confident and prepared for 4th grade math. Skills are broken down by week, so one skill will be covered in a variety of ways during a single class before moving on to a new skill the following week. The following 3rd grade math concepts will be taught and reviewed: addition and subtraction within 1,000 which will include borrowing and carrying, multiplication and division fact fluency and...
4 lessons//4 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Addition and SubtractionReviewing multi-digit addition and subtraction within 1,000 including regrouping, word problems, and using place value to estimate. 3.NBT.A.2 Fluently add and subtract within 1000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.Week 2Lesson 2Basic Multiplication (facts 1-12)Reviewing multiplication strategies for facts 1-12, tricks for fact fluency, and finding missing factors in an equation. 3.OA.C.7 Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. 3.OA.A.4 Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or division equation. 3.OA.B.5 Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide.Week 3Lesson 3Basic Division (facts 1-12)Reviewing division, the relationship between multiplication and division, and finding missing dividends and divisors in an equation. 3.OA.C.7 Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division or properties of operations. 3.OA.A.4 Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or 3.OA.B.5 Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. 3.OA.B.6 Understand division as an unknown-factor problem.Week 4Lesson 4FractionsReviewing vocabulary, making and comparing fractions, and fractions on a number line. 3.NF.A.1 Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a fraction a/b as the quantity formed by a parts of size 1/b. 3.NF.A.2 Understand a fraction as a number on the number line; represent fractions on a number line diagram. 3.NF.A.3 Explain equivalence of fractions in special cases, and compare fractions by reasoning about their size.
- Learners will add and subtract numbers within 1,000.
- Learners will create and compare fractions.
- Learners will use a variety of strategies to solve multiplication and division facts.
