Reviewing multiplication strategies for facts 1-12, tricks for fact fluency, and finding missing factors in an equation. 3.OA.C.7 Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. 3.OA.A.4 Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or division equation. 3.OA.B.5 Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide.

Lesson 3
Basic Division (facts 1-12)
Reviewing division, the relationship between multiplication and division, and finding missing dividends and divisors in an equation. 3.OA.C.7 Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division or properties of operations. 3.OA.A.4 Determine the unknown whole number in a multiplication or 3.OA.B.5 Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide. 3.OA.B.6 Understand division as an unknown-factor problem.

Fractions
Reviewing vocabulary, making and comparing fractions, and fractions on a number line. 3.NF.A.1 Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a fraction a/b as the quantity formed by a parts of size 1/b. 3.NF.A.2 Understand a fraction as a number on the number line; represent fractions on a number line diagram. 3.NF.A.3 Explain equivalence of fractions in special cases, and compare fractions by reasoning about their size.
  • Learners will add and subtract numbers within 1,000.
  • Learners will create and compare fractions.
  • Learners will use a variety of strategies to solve multiplication and division facts.
Certified K-8 teacher with experience teaching math in 3rd-5th grades, small group math interventions for 3-5th grades, math curriculum committee member, and district "Math Champion".

Learners should be proficient in 2nd grade math concepts including basic addition and subtraction. A minimal introduction to multiplication is preferred but not required.
White board and dry-erase marker (not required but highly suggested) OR any note-taking tool (paper, pencil, notebook, iPad app, etc.)
