このクラスで学べること

This week is jam packed with fun games and projects to keep young creators busy! Five projects are demonstrated during the live sessions, and learners have time to complete them in between meetings.
Each meeting will begin with a social check in and sharing any adventure stories we might have. We will talk about the benefits of being creative and discuss strategies for building creative thinking.
The project schedule is:

1. Clay Pots
Learners will use the coil method for making a cute little pot. It's optional to paint your pot once it dries. If we have time left, let's make some beads for next week! We can use Salt Dough or if you have Air Dry Clay you can use this too.
2. Beading a Necklace
Learners will use the beads they created, painted and either air dried or baked (see parental guidance section for safety concerns with baking) and can bring in other beads they have made or gathered to create a unique wearable item. After this class, a nature walk with your adult will be taken to gather materials for Week 3.
3. Creating a Twig Candle Holder
Learners will gather twigs on a nature walk and bring them to class to create a candle holder. You will need a toilet roll, a good bundle of small twigs cut or broken to about 3 inches tall and a battery operated candle. This project is not meant for a burning candle. The next week is another gather and create craft so another walk will be taken to gather materials for Week 4.
4. Stick and String Windchime
Learners will have taken a walk with their adult to find treasures we can transform into an interesting outdoor suspended sculpture. Try to limit your findings to smaller things. We can use all sorts of things like old keys, old toys, bark, feathers, beads, old CD's/DVD's, washers and ...let's see what YOU find! Bring string and a longish stick to hang things from.

Yvonne (B.Mus) has led 5 years of Sparks, Brownies and Girl Guides and loves leading crafts! Let's let our imaginations take us places together!

学習到達目標

Students will learn to see things around them as potential art supplies! There is fine motor control, design practice, learning to create balance weight wise on the windchime and creative thinking to solve challenges we encounter.

Learners may use glue or hot glue guns during this class. Some beads may present a choking hazard. Ensure your clay and paint are non toxic. Please be sure your child is safe while they're creating. If you are going to bake any of your clay items, please ensure you provide adult supervision. It is recommended for Salt Dough that it bakes at about 280 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 - 2 hours (depends on the size). On the walks around your area for supplies, ensure you have permission from land owners for gathering and only take what you need. If you are in a urban setting with no access to a natural space, you can still incorporate found items as long as they are clean and we can substitute coffee stir sticks (wooden) for the candle holder. The important part of the craft is actually the walking and observing our environment with an eye to seeing the potential artistic value in natural items.
受講に必要なもの
Clay (any of the following types: oven bake, air dry, salt dough recipe: (feel free to 1/2 this recipe) 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 cup salt, 1 cup water, combine flour and salt, then add water slowly bit by bit (reserve 1/4 cup just in case it's too much) and knead for 8 minutes until smooth and firm. Add a teaspoon of water at a time if too dry and same for flour if too wet, store in an air-tight container)).
Paint /Brushes (optional, acrylic is suggested for painting clay and air dried dough)
Beads and cord (sometimes a needle is helpful if the cord is very thin)
Tape and glue (hot glue is great with a grown up helper)
Twigs broken or cut to about 2-3 inches
1 Clean toilet roll
1 Battery operated candle or small coin light of some kind that would fit inside a toilet roll.
1 Stick measuring 8 inches or so
Random collection of found items such as old keys, metal washers, feathers, bark, twigs, old CD's.
Yarn or string. Yarn can be quite fun, different colours, textures, sparkle-value and you can even repurpose an old knit sweater on it's way to the rag bag for this. Make sure you create a yarn ball before class though as unravelling can sometimes be tricky.
