This course is full of engaging Read Alouds of stories meant to affirm students and their individual identities. After the Read Aloud, students will engage in conversations around the powerful messages and big ideas in the texts that we read. At the start of each class, we will review Effective Conversation Norms - the roles within a conversation (speaker and listening) and what makes each role effective. My teaching style prioritizes student that and independence. The most engaging strategy has been to prompt students with strategic questions - allowing them to tap into prior knowledge along their process of accessing new knowledge. Week of May 29th: Topic - Making Connections with characters by analyzing their words, thoughts, and actions. Week of June 5th: Topic - Analyzing Things that authors do to make their books interesting for readers. Week of June 12th: Topic - Understanding the Plot of a Fictional Text by thinking about Characters, Problems, Solutions, and Lessons Learned Week of June 19th: Strategic questions to ask while reading, providing a deeper understanding of the text

修士号 Johns Hopkins Universityから 教育 へ
I am an Elementary Education guru with years of experience. I have a Master's degree in Elementary Education from Johns Hopkins University. My experience includes 3rd-5th grade Math and English Literacy in Baltimore City, Brooklyn NY, and Harlem! I believe that every child has something uniquely special to offer the world. Education is the key to unlocking their powers and to changing the world! When I'm not teaching, I'm rollerskating, journaling, reading a good book, or cuddling with my cat Zizi. I look forward to meeting you!
