このクラスで学べること
If your child enjoys messy science experiments, beautiful art projects, and engaging building challenges, this class is perfect for him or her! Because each class is a complete lesson and thoroughly covers the concept presented, learners are welcome to join at anytime. While students will conduct experiments and create projects on their own, group discussion and collaboration are encouraged. I'll begin each class with a quick overview of the weekly topic presented, incorporate the scientific method ,and then facilitate a discussion regarding predictions. Brainstorming, critical thinking, variable observations, and problem solving skills are emphasized through the lesson. My teaching style will vary depending on the activity. In some lessons, learners may dive into the challenge with only minimal instruction given. While other lessons may require slides, instruction ,and teacher demonstration before exploring the topic on their own. It is my belief that students learn best by doing, so the more opportunities they have to discover and share the better! This is my favorite age group of children to teach because their contributions are always insightful and enthusiastic. My teaching style is relaxed and interactive but intentional. Weekly supply needs can be found in two convenient locations: below under the MATERIALS tab on this class description page OR in the classroom section under weekly comments. Science can be messy which is totally awesome and acceptable. Most experiments and crafts can be done at the kitchen table. I suggest having an old baking sheet or tablecloth for the children to work on. Week Eight: March 6 : Engineer a Brilliant Bridge Rescue: materials needed: child's choice!(concepts: shape/design & geometry) Week Nine: March 20: Mexican Radial Mirrors Art (Concepts: circumference, diameter & radius) Week Ten: March 27: Cup Stack Challenge Engineering (Concepts: patterns & geometry) Week Eleven: April 6: Sinkhole Science Experiment (concepts: weathering & erosion)

I have over 21 years teaching all core subjects in an elementary classroom; thirteen of those were years were spent teaching upper elementary children in a brick and mortar school. I have a bachelor's degree with a major in language arts and a minor in general science. I created my own art curriculum which I used to teach a summer art camp for 4 years. I have 5 years experience as a private math tutor for ages 8-13. I created & taught a STEAM based summer enrichment program that was specifically designed for upper elementary children that was used in a daycare for 5 years which was packed with fun science experiments, art projects that highlighted famous artists ,and seasonal engineering activities.
