We will add new vocabulary in context, and keep a running list of words we learn.
I have read this book with a class of middle schoolers before, and it made a space for us to talk about kindness, respect, differences, acceptance, and how we want to be treated ourselves. Excellent lessons from an entertaining story and enriching characters.
A copy of book STARGIRL by Jerry Spinelli paper and pen/pencil for notes and vocabulary words plus working definitions
There is a bit of romance and a kiss as Leo falls in love with Stargirl. There is some meanness in the kids who don't accept Stargirl's individuality or differentness, but this leads to an excellent discussion of acceptance of people's differences, and how every person wishes to be treated kindly.
