Have you always been fascinated by Star Wars' most evil mastermind -- Emperor Palpatine?  Then this class is for you!  

This is a highly-interactive, discussion-based class that encourages student engagement and conversation.  I will structure our lesson by asking the students a series of open-ended questions (supplemented by a few video clips as well) as they relate to The Emperor and his life as it takes place in the Star Wars saga.  

In order to ensure that our discussion remains as orderly as can be expected, and so that every student gets a chance to contribute, this class is capped on the smaller side (6 students).  

The only required experience for students is to be familiar with Emperor Palpatine and the key events in his life as depicted in Star Wars.  There's no harm in re-watching the Star Wars movies in order to prepare for the class!

Students will be able to make connections to how The Emperor's story in Star Wars contains valuable lessons that are applicable to our own lives.  In particular, we will look at key moments that show The Emperor's true evil, and how we can avoid in our own lives being overcome with a desire for power.

Students will also get the opportunity to hone their critical thinking skills, as well as practice having respectful conversations with their peers.

Emperor Palpatine's story in Star Wars is filled with dark moments, including his infamous "Order 66" -- in which he commands his clone army to eradicate the Jedi Order. In addition to mild sci-fi violence being present throughout all the Star Wars films, themes of revenge, temptation, and betrayal are especially prevalent.

In the days prior to the meeting, I will provide a brief handout that contains guidelines for our discussion on our Classroom page, along with a list of a handful of questions and topics I plan for us to discuss.

I am what you might call a Star Wars fanatic, and have seen the main films too many times to count.  My friends and I have spent many long nights discussing and debating every topic related to Star Wars.

As a teacher, I have extensive experience in managing classroom discussions of all ages and ability levels.  My goal is to ensure that every student has a chance to make contributions, provide their opinion, and/or demonstrate what they've learned.
