テスト
at the end of this course, students will recieve their certificate of completion if they receive at least a 60% average on the covered material. This includes quizzes, assignments, and the end of quarter test. The certificate will have their overall percentage for this quarter of the course.
評価
Grading will be offered as a way to measure proficiency in the course. Before moving to quarter 2, students should have a proficiency int he quarter 1 content. Students can retake tests in order to achieve this. 90-100% A 80-89% B 70-79%C 60-69%D Students need to have at least a 60% in order to move to the quarter 2 material.

このクラスで学べること

英語レベル - 不明
米国の学年 9
Beginner レベル向け
Students should be familiar with computational skills (like fractions, decimals, and percentages as well as basic operations). Students should have been exposed to pre-algebra skills (like solving proportions and equations).
These are the modules of the course and topics covered:
Mod 1: Order of Operations, Evaluating Expressions (including fractions)
Mod 2: Writing Algebraic Expressions, Writing Equations and Inequalities, Tables and Equations
Mod 3: Fraction-Decimal-Percent Review, Comparing and Ordering Real Numbers
Mod 4: Simplifying Square Roots, Properties of Real Numbers
Mod 5: Combine Like Terms and Distributive Property, Simplifying Expressions (with applications)
Mod 6: One-Step Equations Writing and Solving
Mod 7: Two-Step Equations Writing and Solving
Mod 8: Multi-Step Equations
Mod 9: Equations with Variables on Both Sides

Students will take notes on each mod lesson by use of their binder (google drive) and use an edpuzzle video to learn the content. The edpuzzle video has a quiz at the end as a check for understanding. Students may need additional help if they do poorly on that edpuzzzle quiz. The assignment for each mod is 30 problems. The problems are mostly from the lesson, but include spiraled problems of previously learned content (a lesson reference is given so that students can look up prior content).
学習到達目標
Students will learn the basic concepts of algebra. The class is structured into 9 mods (weeks). Each mod has 3 lessons that are taught through edpuzzle videos. Students can use their notes to answer the edpuzzle questions. Each mod there are 30 questions of homework. This course is "spiraled" meaning that the majority of the homework is focused on the lessons learned in the mod, but there may be work from the prior mods to help with overall comprehension and retention.

Mod 1: Order of Operations, Evaluating Expressions (including fractions)
Mod 2: Writing Algebraic Expressions, Writing Equations and Inequalities, Tables and Equations
Mod 3: Fraction-Decimal-Percent Review, Comparing and Ordering Real Numbers
Mod 4: Simplifying Square Roots, Properties of Real Numbers
Mod 5: Combine Like Terms and Distributive Property, Simplifying Expressions (with applications)
Mod 6: One-Step Equations Writing and Solving
Mod 7: Two-Step Equations Writing and Solving
Mod 8: Multi-Step Equations
Mod 9: Equations with Variables on Both Sides

Each mod has 3 edpuzzle videos (with Edpuzzle quizzes that students can use their notes for) along with 30 questions of homework assignment problems (mostly focused on the mod lessons but will include some prior mod questions as well). For this reason, students should take their notes seriously and keep a binder.

There is a binder given for this course. Students can take notes using the binder of notes. The intention is that students get used to using their notes to help them better understand course content. Because some problems from the assignments may be based on prior mods, students can then use their binder to go back and look for the material that the question pertains to in their binder.

If students need additional help, they can sign up for the homework help course that is listed (please make sure to sign up for the homework help for Algebra 1). If students would like one on one help, they can sign up for my one-on-one tutoring course. Both of these are offered on an "as needed" basis.

Because we use jamboard, edpuzzle, and google drive there are parental notices that you should be aware of:

I have been teaching algebra for over 20 years! I love teaching and helping students be more successful. I understand things like math anxiety and struggling learners, so I take a "small skills" approach to teaching. This means that instead of long in-depth lessons, it is very focused on small skill mastery before moving on. I also spiralize my curriculum so that students get mixed review practice to maintain those skills that they have already mastered throughout my course.

I love crafting and spending time with my family! In the summer, we are either camping or at a ballfield somewhere.
