このクラスで学べること
Spelling in the English language can be tricky. We can't always rely on spellcheck to help us. A few simple rules will help us not only become better spellers, but better readers too. Linked in the classroom is a list of all the words we will be practicing. We will focus on 10 words each class. Students may wish to look over the words before each class to familiarize themselves, or have them for after class to continue studying. Each rule has a colorful print-out as well as additional practice worksheets. We will spend the first 10 minutes of class going over the words and the rule associated with them. We will then play a game for 15 minutes to reinforce the spelling of each word. Please bring either paper and pencil, or a whiteboard and dry erase marker to each class. The last 5 minutes of class I will ask the students to help me think of additional words that follow our spelling pattern. There is also an optional homework worksheet for additional practice that the students can work on after class. 1st class: "ai" or "ay" - which one to use Game: Tic-Tac-Toe. Please print the attached worksheet for our tic-tac-toe game. Students will fill in the words themselves. Also, they will need something to cover the words with (small pieces of paper for example). Additional practice: Rainbow words worksheet, and reading passage worksheet. 2nd class: "ch" or "tch" - which one to use Game: Dino hatch (A google slide presentation matching beginning sounds with the final "ch" or "tch" sound) Additional practice: Magic spelling worksheet, and reading passage with questions worksheet. 3rd class: "c" or "k" at the beginning of a word - which one to use Game: Jeopardy. We will listen to clues and try to guess the spelling words being described. Bonus points if you can spell the word. Additional practice: Crack the code emoji spelling worksheet. 4th class: "dge" or "ge" at the end of a word - which one to use Game: We will look at our words in a colorful word cloud. We will also practice spelling our words using sign language. Additional practice: Sign language worksheet. Follow the pictures to spell each spelling word. 5th class: “au" or "aw" - which one to use Game: claw machine (A google slide presentation where students get to pick a number and see what prize they get from the claw machine. ex: sauce, straw) Additional practice: Maze worksheet, and monster match worksheet. 6th class: "oi" or "oy" - which one to use Game: Flip a coin (A google slide presentation where students choose 'heads' or 'tails' of an animal coin to try and find a spelling word) Additional practice: Spin it, spell it worksheet, and a cut and paste worksheet.

Hello! My name is Julie and I live in Arizona. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University in 2005. I also have a current teaching certificate in the state of Arizona. For the past 3 years I have taught English as a second language.
I love teaching on Outschool. I create and tweak my lessons until they become the kind of classes I would have liked to take as a kid. Currently I teach math and spelling classes. I keep my age ranges within 3 years, and class sizes no higher than 4 students. I feel it’s important to keep class sizes small so each learner receives more opportunities to participate.
Please feel free to message me with any questions. I usually respond the same day.
