Solving quadratics is widely considered the most difficult unit in Algebra 1. My goal is to make it accessible for students who really struggle with math. Topics covered include the following: Session 1-Finding the discriminant Session 2 & 3-Quadratic Formula Session 4-Quadratic word problems Session 5-Taking square roots Session 6 & 7-Factoring (also called factorising) Session 8 & 9-Solving quadratics by factoring This is a tentative schedule. Students will gain a deeper understanding of solving quadratics, particularly factoring, using the quadratic formula, and taking square roots.

Students should have a calculator that displays radicals in radical form--the square root symbol (not decimal form only); the most commonly used calculator for this is the TI 30XS Multiview. Graphing calculator is not recommended. Students should bring paper, pencil, and their calculator to each session.
