Welcome to the world of hand sewing! Where your hands allow your visions of imagination to come to life. 
Before sewing machines were invented, everything was done by hand. 
Hand sewing is used in most sewing projects, so it is a necessary foundational skill. 

There are many benefits to hand sewing.
1. Improved coordination. Having your fingers and brain work together builds fine motor skills and flexes those brain muscles.
2. Quiet. You can sew without the sound of a machine humming in your ear (or in the ears of others).
3. Relaxing. Due to it's quiet nature, you can get lost in your project.
4. Portable. Sew anytime, anywhere...mostly. 
5. Affordable. Hand sewing is a great low cost option to get started on creating those projects you've always wanted to do.
6. Versatile. You can sew different fabric weights and use many types of stitches, not to mention sew on a button or darn a sock.
7. More social. You can sit around and talk with friends without the noise of a machine or even work on a group project like a quilt.
8. Reliable. If something happens to your machine or sewing on the machine doesn't go as planned, hand sewing will be your option to complete your project as well as adding the finishing details. 
9. Foundational.  Any sewer wanting to proceed to the next level of sewing, whether for projects using the machine, regarding tailoring or custom work, or pertaining to the use of patterns, must have a foundational knowledge & understanding of basic hand stitches.

In this Part 2 multi-day series class, students will learn the basics needed for hand sewing.

We will cover: 
*the stab stitch
*the whipstitch 
*the blanket stitch
*the catch stitch
*the herringbone stitch
*French tacks

Here is the class structure:
-I will demonstrate the stab stitch, the whipstitch, the blanket stitch, the catch stitch, and the herringbone stitch, and French tacks and tell how to use each of the them.
-Students will practice these skills.
-Students can ask questions as needed.

This class is designed for those who have a basic knowledge of sewing.

Requirements for this class: 
*Students have taken the "Part 1" class of this series
       OR
*Students have already practiced the techniques covered in the "Part 1" class series.

The goal is to gain a basic experience of hand sewing through practicing these hand-sewing techniques.
This means we will:
1. Practice the stab stitch.
2. Practice the whipstitch.
3. Practice the blanket stitch.
4. Practice the catch stitch.
5. Practice the herringbone stitch. 
6. Practice French tacks.

If your child would like to expand his or her knowledge and experience of hand-sewing techniques, then you will need to book another class utilizing one or more of these techniques. 

Although I will not be using it for class, a helpful book of reference for use between classes is "Sewing Basics: All You Need to Know About Machine And Hand Sewing" by Sandra Bardwell.

Notes:
Since needle and scissors are sharp, parental supervision may be required depending on the learner.
We may need an adult to help here and there, so it would be helpful if an adult is close by if needed.
