In this 8-week course, students will learn the basics of music theory, note reading, writing skills, piano technique, and how to play 3-4 familiar songs!

CANCELLATION POLICY: 
There will be no refunds or transfers available for students who dis-enroll after the start of the 8 week course. Please make sure that you can attend all 8 weeks of the course before signing up. 

CLASS LENGTH:
45 minute classes - minimum of 4 learners, maximum of 6
30 minute classes - minimum of 2 learners, maximum of 4 

Topics we will cover include:
- Parts and layout of the piano
- How to sit at the piano
- Finger numbers on both hands
- A simple warm up to use at the beginning of each practice session
- The musical alphabet
- Rhythm notation: quarter, half, whole notes, and quarter rests. 
- Musical symbols and writing skills: How to draw a treble clef, staff, and rhythm notes.
- How to name all the white keys on the keyboard
- Whole steps and half steps
- How to create a major scale using a major scale pattern
- How to read basic lead sheets and use chords
- How to play a pop song with basic chords


Over the course of the 8 week group lessons, students will enjoy a fun and inspiring take on learning the piano. I will share my experience as a professional musician, introduce students to songs and musicians that they may have never heard before, and demonstrate how learning the piano can become a fun and rewarding life-long practice.

Q: Is a keyboard appropriate for this class?

A: A good digital piano is a great way to begin piano. The keyboard should be set up on a keyboard stand with a firm chair or piano bench in front of it.
