週あたり 1-2 時間. There is no assigned homework and it is not a requirement to read the plays or complete any assignments outside of class time. We will be focusing primarily on enjoying Shakespeare's works as a young reader and theater enthusiast. It is not a requirement to read any of the plays, but I do offer recommendations in class for various adaptations and version, such as graphic novels and modern translations.

This is a continuation course that covers four more of William Shakespeare's plays. Shakespeare is often considered on of the most important writers in the English language, and studying his works can be a great way for kids to learn classic literature, as well as theater arts. Several learners have completed part one of this series, where we study four famous plays from a theater arts perspective. In part one we review Shakespeare's comedies, tragedies and histories by studying A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Richard III and The Tempest. It is not a requirement that you attend part one first, and you can take that course after this one if you haven't attended it already.

During this course your student will learn the following:

- Who William Shakespeare was, and why he is important to learn about
- An overview of his complete works, including plays and sonnets
- Storyline, plot, character development and theme
- Vocabulary (translating old English words into modern day English)
- Famous, well-known quotes and phrases (learn a few Shakespearean insults, pranks and jokes!)
- History of English theater and performing arts

Each week, we will be analyzing a different play. The four plays that have been chosen are the following:

Week 1: Hamlet, Prince of Denmark
Week 2: Twelfth Night, or What You Will
Week 3: Henry V
Week 4: Macbeth

Our classes will be presented via Nearpod, which is an external website. At the beginning of each class I will provide a direct link and/or code for students to log in using an internet browser OR the Nearpod app on a tablet/smartphone. Our presentation includes videos, games and quizzes, slideshows of historical costumes and props, virtual field trips of relevant historical settings, facts about modern day adaptations, whiteboard drawings, collaborations and team exercises, and more!

During our Nearpod presentation, students will be asked to collaborate with one another, participate verbally and to use their device or computer by drawing, typing and watching short videos together. This is a very interactive course, but nonverbal participation is also possible with the chat feature. You can use a separate tablet or smartphone to access the Nearpod presentation, but some of the features (such as the drawing/whiteboard segments) are easier to see on a larger screen.
It is important that learners are comfortable navigating to a separate browser, open tabs, minimize their screen and access their computer taskbar if needed. Also, please note that the class recording does not display the Nearpod lesson, as that is conducted on a separate browser window and is not shared onscreen. If you miss a class you can request a student-paced version of the Nearpod lesson to complete.
学習到達目標
Students will learn the basic overall plot of each play and discuss some details about the characters. Our main focus will be to approach the plays from a theater arts perspective, as an actor, director, backstage crew and audience.

Macbeth and Hamlet both feature magic, murder and suicide. Macbeth is often considered to fit in the genre of "horror". Both plays feature supernatural characters, such as witches and ghosts. Our focus will not be on the scary or gory scenes, and none of the videos will be graphic. The plot of Twelfth Night includes some romance, cross-dressing and gender stereotypes that make for an educational discussion on gender roles in Elizabethan era theater. While I designed these classes to be as light-hearted and casual as possible, these elements are present and there is the possibility of fellow classmates having seen live productions or movie versions that are rated PG-13 in the US. I have online and in-person experience teaching these classes to children and do my best to present these subjects in an age-appropriate manner.

I've been passionate about Shakespeare and the performing arts my entire life and love to share my love of these important literary works! I have taught this course to local students and have had amazing feedback from children begging to read more Shakespeare together. I love to find ways to make Shakespeare exciting and fresh for young ones!
