There are the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Modern World, the New Seven Wonders, even the Natural and Medieval World. The problem with these lists is often times they don't focus on the world as a whole and exclude many locations. Though there is a reason for this, many students pointed out to me wonderful places in the Americas that should be included on these lists. They asked Why there isn't a list of Wonders of the Americas. Although some places are included on the New or Modern lists of wonders there are other wonderful structures and places that should be considered for their own importance. In this class, through a combination of lecture and discussion, we will learn about different places in the Americas and develop our own list of seven wonders. Students will work together in class to decide which seven are the most important and should be on our list of The Seven Wonders of the Americas? We will look at: the Grand Canyon Mesa Verde Chichen Itza Tikal Easter Island Empire State Building Golden Gate Bridge Mount Rushmore Machu Picchu Serpent Mound Nazca Lines Teotihuacan Christ the Redeemer Statue CN Tower Itaipu Dam and the Panama Canal.
学習到達目標
Students will learn about specific locations, buildings, and statues, including ancient and modern structures. Many things have been created in the last 2000 years and students will learn about some of the most famous and recognizable that are found in the Americas. Students will learn about eleven locations in the Americas that are important for Ancient and Modern cultures but not about these cultures themselves. Each of these places is individually important and as a class, we will decide which seven are the most important, creating their own list of seven wonders.

In this course, we do not focus on the Indigenous people who created these wonders but on the wonder its self. If you would like a more cultural class please let me know.

教師の専門知識と資格
I have degrees in Art History, Anthropology, and Indigenous studies and teach about many of these sights in my college Art History classes. I am a fluent Arapaho speaker and much of my research has focused on the Indigenous peoples of the Americas. I have studied and published on the Moche people of Peru and on the Maya of the Yucatan. This class takes an artistic approach focusing on the architecture and creation of structures rather than a cultural understanding of these peoples.
