This class aims to give students the tools and motivation to go and learn whatever they want to in their own time. Students have a lifetime of learning ahead of them. If they can develop an internal motivation to learn now, then it will pay dividends forever. Class sessions will be 55 minutes long, and the first lesson of each week will teach the methods of learning. This will include the following: how to find information online and how to get access to experts when the information is not online; how to get a quick understanding of a topic using first principles thinking; and finally the importance of focused deep work. Then the second lesson each week will have the students present what they learnt about a given topic (except for the first class). In between classes, students will have spent time learning about a topic of choice. They would then present what they learnt to the class. As students go off and learn about their topics on their own in between lessons, I will be highly available to guide them through their exploration of a topic. Helping them get unstuck when they do get stuck. I’ll be there to motivate them to do the exploration, helping them develop a love of learning.

I've been a self-directed learner for a long time.
While I was a product manager at Uber and a student at Penn, I was always searching for startup ideas. I explored everything from building new form factors for reading to property management. I balanced school and work with this exploration, and eventually got funded by Y Combinator and General Catalyst.
As a high schooler, I took 5 extra Cambridge A-levels by studying them on my own. This was externally motivated (I was trying to get into a good college), but it crystallized for me from an early age that learning on your own can be super effective. レビュー
