In this one-time course, students will learn to sketch a realistic portrait of a sea otter in water.

What will students learn?

1. Students will learn techniques for sketching a proportionate contour drawing (outline) of a sea otter. 
2. Students will learn techniques for smooth blending, pencil application, gradient blending, and adding contrast.
3. Students will learn techniques for sketching short and wet fur.
4. Students will learn techniques for sketching a sea otter floating in water.

I will demonstrate each step for students and have students complete that step along with me.  My classroom is a calm, fun, and creative environment where discussion between teacher and students is encouraged.  I ask students questions throughout the lesson to check for student understanding.  Students may also interact with each other if they want to share what they have learned during class.  Students who enroll in this class should have basic drawing skills, like drawing and manipulating shapes with a pencil.  In this class, we practice more advanced techniques (sketching wet fur, sketching a sea otter in water, etc.)  Students who enroll in this class should have some drawing experience.
