In this one hour and thirty minute class we will use a polymer oven bake clay, such as Fimo or Sculpy, to make a magical mushroom patch, filled with moss, grass, a variety of mushrooms and other plants. I will show step by step directions and discuss what I am doing, and share some awesome tips on making a realistic representation of nature. My goal is to get as many mushrooms done in the time of the class, we will be working the entire hour and a half. There is a chance that the students will want to continue working on their mushroom patch after the class, and then wind up making more clay figures afterwards! There are two supply items essential for the success of this project: wire and masking tape! We will be using soft aluminum or copper wire. The wire is best at 16 or 18 gauge. A basic set of clay tools is also recommended. In lieu of a set of clay tools, the learner can use household objects: a toothpick, a wooden skewer, an old toothbrush, a plastic knife, and a pencil with a pink eraser on top, etc. Note to learners and parents, please be sure to follow instructions when baking the clay. The temperatures for this kind of clay is often quite low (around 250 degrees), and is stated on the clay box or wrapper. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions for me at all.

Note to learners and parents, please be sure to follow instructions when baking the clay. The temperatures for this kind of clay is often quite low (around 250 degrees), and is stated on the clay box or wrapper.
Please make sure the learners have the items necessary for the success of this project!
This project is one hour and a half, and we will be sculpting the entire time!
Younger learners may need assistance warming up the clay prior to the class, as the clay is often quite stiff. In the past, I have used a microwave for about 10 seconds to help with the process, however, manually is the best option.
Younger learners may also need assistance baking the clay, and cutting the wire.
For this class it is important that we all begin at the same time. If, for any reason, the learner will be delayed by more than 10-15 minutes, please reach out and we can arrange a make up class after the session is finished.
Please note, I am happy to hold a class if there is only one student enrolled. I do my best to reach out ahead of the class and make sure that's alright with students and parents.
Please reach out if you have any questions.
受講に必要なもの
The students will need the following: * Sculpy or Fimo clay in a variety of colors, I suggest two packets for some of the colors: several kinds of green, black, white, brown, orange, yellow, red, blue. Any other color that students prefer. * Soft wire: 16 to 20 gauge is good. * Jewelry wire cutters that are safe and easy to use. * Masking tape! * Basic clay tools. In the absence of the tools, a toothpick, or a large plastic sewing needle will work for most things. Optional - *Mica powder (the shine that you see on my sculpture is done with mica powder). Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have about the materials. I am happy to provide links or photos of the materials upon request.

Hi, my name is Mariya, and to put it simply, I love art. I love to make art, and to share my passion with others. I love sharing my skills with my students. My favorite part is seeing them embrace and enjoy the process of art making, making connections between the art and their daily lives.
I have been teaching art classes privately in NJ. I have taught homeschooling art classes, adult art classes, as well as private instruction.
I grew up in an art school. Quite literally! My family's flat was in the same building that housed the city art school. Unavoidably, the love for art seeped in. I have been drawing, painting, photographing, and creating, for as long as I can remember. For me, creativity is a source of peace, relaxation, and a form of meditation.
After graduating from Rutgers University, I have been teaching multimedia art. Up to this day I have not met a medium that I did not like. I always enjoy exploring a variety of mediums and concepts with my students, all whilst sharing my love for the process of art making. I currently teach art to the homeschool community, teens, and to seniors.
I have worked as a freelance illustrator and illustrated children’s books. I have also participated in public art exhibits and local shows. I continually pursue photography, drawing, and painting, always striving to be better than I was yesterday. I also volunteer on the board of a local non profit art association, Westfield Art Association, where our goal is to bring art education and opportunities in art to the community.
I am also a mom, and homeschooled my kids.
Currently, I reside in the state of NJ, with 3 dogs, 2 cats, a few children, husband and grandparents. Life should be fun and happy.
