Is your child interested in many branches of science?  Rather than focusing on one specific theme or area of science, we will look at many different branches and will begin to see how they relate to each other.  This class is a semester-long survey of beginning science concepts in the four areas of Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Earth/Space Science.  It covers more material and moves at a faster pace than my science class designed for younger learners.  Students are not required to have any prior scientific experience.
 
--Chemistry--
Week 1: Solids, Liquids, and Gasses
             --The three types of matter and their unique particulate natures.
Week 2: Materials and their Properties
             --The properties of various types of solid matter.

--Biology--
Week 3: Beginning Biological Classification
              --Classification of living things based on similarities and differences.
Week 4: Life Cycles
              --Stages of development and growth of living things from one generation to the next.

--Physics--
Week 5: Energy
              --Forms and states of energy.
Week 6: Sound
              --A closer look at sound as a result of energy.
Week 7: Force
              --What is force and how is it related to energy?

--Earth and Space Science--
Week 8: Gravity
              --What is gravity and what are it's characteristics?
Week 9: Earth's Rotation
              --Exploration of earth's rotation and how it causes day and night.
Week 10: Maps & Cardinal Directions
              --Learn how to read and draw maps and using cardinal directions.

Monday
              --Prerecorded instructional videos will be posted by 8am (MST) each Monday.  Videos will be 10-20 minutes in length.

Wednesday
              --By Wednesday of each week, each student will need to post in a classroom a short written or video response to the video as well as a picture of the entry they made in their science journal about that weeks topic.

Friday
               --In addition, students will also be required to complete a small homework assignment by Friday.  These assignments will be posted at the same time as the instructional videos on Mondays, so students will have the entire week to work on them.  Don't wait until the last minute!
