In this ongoing class, students will be introduced to a new science concept or theme each week. Some examples of topics covered are: density, solubility, magnetism, conductivity, etc... They will learn and practice using scientific vocabulary. We will conduct several experiments each week using simple materials that can be found at home. The students will participate in group activities to reinforce the concept of the week (discussions, trivia games, matching, comparing with Venn diagrams, etc...)

Here is the breakdown of the weeks:

Week of September 1: Wacky Weather Part 2
Supplies Needed:
A clear glass or cup
A dry erase marker
A clear glass jar with a lid
A spoon
Food coloring
A baking tray/lasagna dish
A plastic lid from a container
Small toys that can get wet
Something to act as sand (actual sand/rice/oatmeal/beans)
Water

Week of September 15: Acid and Base Art
Week of September 22: Magic Candles
Week of September 29: Cloud Dough
Week of October 6: Marvelous Marshmallows
Week of October 13: Surface Tension Magic
Week of October 20: Density Rainbows
Week of October 27: Halloween Fun
*Daylight Savings**
Week of November 3: Solubility Discovery
Week of November 10: Magnetism Exploration
Week of November 17: Buoyancy Dancing Raisins
Week of November 24: Egg-speriment!
Week of December 1: Absorption Surprise
Week of December 8: Germs, Germs, Germs!
Week of December 15: Chemical Reactions

No prior knowledge about any of the science concepts is required in order to participate in this class. As this is an ongoing class, students may join at any time. The concepts are not cumulative and can each be learned separately.

I look forward to teaching your children!

受講に必要なもの
I will post the materials in the classroom one week before each class. **If you register after the weekly message is posted, you may not be able to see it in the classroom. I try my best to email the list to new students before their first class, depending on how last minute they register. Materials are usually easy to find household items. I also recommend students bring a notebook or folder with paper so they may record their findings each week! If you are ever missing any of the materials, just let me know! There are always alternatives, or you can simply watch the experiments and still enjoy the class!
