Come join in the fun and explore this beautiful planet together! In this on going class, students are taught by a highly experienced teacher the first unit of earth science which will cover weathering ,erosion, landforms, and layers of the earth. Students will meet twice a week for instruction, experiments, and hands on projects. Because children learn best through interactive discovery, much of the class will be spent in engaging activities and collaboration with their peers. Children will learn how to keep a science journal and document observations by incorporating the scientific method. Note taking is a valuable learning tool to cement content, so that skill is taught during instruction time. Homework is not required; rather there are optional crafts and worksheets occasionally posted in the classroom section . Teamwork and collaboration are encouraged. The class is teacher guided and interactive. My teaching style is relaxed but intentional. Learners are engaged in projects, experiments , games and thought provoking discussions. I will demonstrate an activity or experiment, so it's not necessary that learners always do the activity independently; however, learners may get more from the lesson if they can do projects themselves. It's important to me that children in my class understand content, feel valued, and reach their full potential, so please don't hesitate to reach out for support and clarification. This is my passion, not just a job. Here are the first two weeks in greater detail : Week One : November 2(lesson one): Erosion: Mechanical and Physical Erosion: Teacher directed lesson complete with powerpoint slides, vocabulary and reading content. Students participate in two hands on experiments: Sugar Cube & Wind Erosion. If time permits, a review game using landform visuals . Optional Activity: Super Agent Erosion Poster November 4: (lesson two): Erosion: Teacher directed lesson complete with powerpoint slides and erosion terms. Students participate in one hands on experiment: Erosion in a Tub (Students will make a landform in a plastic tub , and then apply wind , water and glacier erosion to the landform.) They will record observations on lab sheet. Optional: Sketch the landform in their journal after weathering and erosion have impacted it. Week Six: ( Dec. 14): Volcanoes continued & Igneous Rocks
学習到達目標
Students will improve their understanding of erosion & weathering and its impact on the earth. Learners will become proficient notetakers and comfortable conducting experiments independently.

Learners will may occasionally need help setting up their work area and gathering supplies.
受講に必要なもの
Students will need a notebook for our science journal. ( Lab sheets are available for those who want to print them off , or I will guide students in the note taking process.) Supplies needed for experiments will vary weekly, but I will try to keep them simple . Items can be found readily around the house or at a grocery store. If you don't have an item, just message me and we can come up with a substitution. Sometimes those alternatives offer the most interesting results! Occasionally there will be printouts attached in the classroom section that students will use during class. Week 7: (Dec. 14) TUESDAY: Igneous Rocks :old crayons, baggie , cup of WARM water and a hammer, rolling pin or & Sedimentary Rocks: disposable cup, glue, spoon, sand , pebbles or crushed shells.
