Students will explore cultural celebrations in Spanish-speaking countries during February, emphasizing Valentine's Day, Carnaval, and celebrate the contributions of Afro-Latinos to Black History Month.

Geography & Culture Locate Spanish speaking countries on a map and where it is in relation to their country Students will be introduced to the cultures of different Spanish speaking countries. Linguistics Using a variety of graphic organizers, the teacher will guide their learning about how English and Spanish are alike, and how these languages are different, and study cognates to increase vocabulary. Listening/Speaking Students will learn to practice short conversational scripts which can be spoken with Spanish speakers from around the world. Reading/Writing/Grammar Students will be introduced to conjugating 12 or more essential verbs, learn words and expressions related to these verbs, and how to compose short sentences and paragraphs. Presentational skills The teacher will moderate discussions for students based on the topic/theme for the week.

Parents are encouraged to review what their student has learned after each session, and learners are encouraged to complete assignments and prepare for the upcoming week. Materials will be available each Sunday for the upcoming week in Google Classroom. Upon withdrawal from this class your learner will no longer have access to GC or materials submitted so be sure to save your documents in your drive. Access to a printer is also recommended, so let me know if you are unable to print materials.

Romance languages use general rules to identify the gender of nouns and adjectives. I teach traditional Spanish and am inclusive of gender neutral vocabulary using @ or X. I recommend having this conversation with your learner prior to enrollment and clearly indicate the preferred gender/pronoun so I can address your learner appropriately when asking general questions or saying general phrases (such as are you ready (¿Estás lista? ¿Estás listo? or referring to students as amiga (females and those who identify as females) or amigo (males and those who identify as males).
