週1時間. Class time will be used to design and test our rockets. However, many children choose to spend time after class improving and testing their rockets. Additionally, learners will be given a challenge to continue experimenting with their rockets after each class. The challenges will be shared during class with learners and on our class page after each class.この文章は自動翻訳されています

This STEM based class is most appropriate for children ages 7-10. It will meet three times, for 45 minutes each session. During this course, we will be making and launching an Alka Seltzer Rocket, balloon rocket, and a Straw Rocket. We will think like a scientist by planning out, predicting, and observing our rockets. We will talk about the science that makes these rockets work, as well as how these science concepts are transferred to rockets that are launched by NASA. While experimenting with weight loads on the rockets, we will compare our experiences to that of an engineer, and learn through trial and error. Key science vocabulary, such as gravity, drag, reaction, acceleration, and Newton's Second and Third Laws of Motion will also be introduced. This is a hands on class where students will be creating and experimenting. It is recommended to have a Zoom device you can move outside for the Alka Seltzer Rocket on day 3, as they can be a bit messy! Also, on day one, students will need to tie a piece of string to two chairs. It is okay for parents to assist with this if your child is still learning to tie. Some basic household supplies will be needed for this class, and those that you don't have on hand can be purchased at a local dollar store inexpensively. The correct supplies will be needed for your child to participate fully and successfully.
学習到達目標
Students will demonstrate the process of science inquiry by asking questions, observing, and investigating by taking scientific notes and communicating verbally.

受講に必要なもの
The following supplies are needed to participate fully in the class. Day 1: String (about 8 feet long, kite string works best as the string has to thread through the straw), 1 straw, masking tape, balloons (2 or 3), paper, pencil, scissors Day 2: Popsicle or craft stick (the thicker one works best), Large rubber band or a few medium size ones, masking tape, 1 Straw, 3 index cards or a large piece of card stock, 1 pencil top eraser, 1 metal brad/fastener, paper, pencil, scissors Day 3: safety glasses, 4 pennies, masking tape, 4-8 Alka Seltzer tablets, water, paper, pencil, film canister or small air tight Tupperware container (This container must have a snap on lid, and can NOT have a twist on lid. Also, please NO glass containers. Please put water in the container, flip it over and be sure it does not leak. This is how you will know that it is air tight. If you do not have an air tight container, the rocket will NOT launch.) If you don't have these items at home, most can be found at your local dollar store!

Hello! My name is Jeanne Schoening. I am excited to offer courses in writing, reading, math, science, and social studies for elementary students on Outschool. My classes will have a thematic approach and will include topics that are high interest for children. As a result, you will often find a bit of reading or writing hiding in my science and social studies lessons.
I have been teaching for 27 years in a public school, where I am currently a second grade teacher. I also have experience teaching Kindergarten through fifth grade students in all subject areas. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University, where I also minored in Environmental Science and History. I also have a Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Michigan State University. Furthermore, I have countless hours of Professional Development and am always looking for ways to improve my teaching!
I believe all children can learn, given the right encouragement and instruction, yet they all learn at their own pace. I also believe that learning should be developmentally appropriate, with hands on activities and real world connections.
When I am not teaching, I love to spend time with my family and travel. I am a mom of four wonderful children, well three are actually young adults. Together we love to camp, visit National Parks, cruise, and go to Disney (my favorite). I am a Disney fanatic and collector, as well as a Disney College of Knowledge graduate!
I hope to meet your child in my virtual classroom soon!
