Learners will spend 50 minutes each week discussing the various details of a Roald Dahl book. During the meetings, learners will be encouraged to read critically, share their opinions, and discuss literary devices. Each lesson will begin with each learner having the opportunity to share news or a favorite toy with the rest of the class. This encourages participation and enhances class discussions later in the lesson. Next, each lesson will discuss theme, characterization, plot structure...
Through the course of this ongoing summer book club, learners will learn to read and think critically, as well as how to defend their opinions and state their ideas respectfully. Students will also learn basic literacy ideas such as: plot, characters, setting and theme and be able to confidently discuss those elements by the end of the summer.
I hold a master's degree with an emphasis in reading. I teach special education and understand the necessity for lively lessons designed to hold learners attention.

I will use Canva as a presentation tool. Students will not need to access the site. I will also use Kahoot occasionally for fun interaction. Students are provided a link during class to access the site.
