Students will learn recorder basics.  Each week we will practice sitting tall, holding the instrument properly, breathing deeply, blowing air lightly into the instrument, using our fingers to cover the holes in the instrument, using our mouth to seal the air flow, behaving like an instrumentalist, and basic note reading including rhythm.  We can learn all of these things by following directions while playing short exercises and songs, and by having fun!

I have successfully taught very young learners to play recorder previously in a large-class format.  The small-class format is much more conducive to learning and making progress when it comes to very young learners.  The only concern is finger size compared to the holes in the bore of the recorder.  Please check to make sure that your student's fingers are able to cover the holes.

The teacher will provide Google Slides containing printable versions of the music practiced in class.  Practice videos created by the teacher will be embedded in the Google Slides.  Slides may be accessed for practice, for printing, and for download.  The link to the slides will be posted in the Outschool classroom.  The class video will not be made available in the classroom for reasons of privacy for our little learners.
