"Recorder Karate Club" will be fun and engaging while learning to read music and correct techniques for playing the Recorder. Learners interested in learning to play an instrument, reading music on the Treble Clef Staff, preparing to play another instrument in Beginning Band, or just learning something new will enjoy this class. This class is also perfect for Homeschooling Families who would like to add a Music as an enrichment class for their learner.

This is an Ongoing Class which means learners can come and go as they please at any point. Each week, learners will learn concepts for reading music and techniques for playing the Recorder. They will be introduced to new songs and should practice the songs they learn after class. Once a learner has mastered a song, they will have the opportunity to test for their next "Karate" Belt with the ultimate goal of earning their Black Belt!  Learners will need a Baroque Soprano Recorder for this class. Please check out the Materials Needed section to ensure your learner has all they need for our first class!

PREREQUISITE
 
Learners interested in joining this class, should first take one of the classes below to learn the basics of playing the recorder and to be prepared for this Ongoing Class. All Learners must be able to identify the letter names of the Lines and Spaces of the Treble Clef Staff as well as play the notes 'B', 'A' & 'G' on the Recorder while reading them on the Staff. This will be taught in the classes below and reinforced in "Recorder Karate Club".

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL CLASS

1. It is important to see learners' faces and hands during the class. Learners should be seated in a chair for class and have their camera able to capture them from the head to the top of the seat. I will be able to offer learners feedback on the use of their hands/fingers this way during the lesson. 

2. Please ensure to have all Materials ready prior to starting class. Learners will need a Baroque Soprano Recorder, White Board or Blank Paper, Dry Erase Marker, Pencil, and Handouts (Provided in the Outschool Classroom the day prior to class beginning).

3. At times, learners will need to write. Please make sure your space is equipped for this to be possible with a table, desk, or something hard to write on.

4. Ensure learners are in a quiet space to allow them to hear the teacher and stay engaged.

5. We will be using an External Resource for this class, "Flipgrid". Learners will use this App to record their Recorder Karate Belt songs and to allow the teacher to give feedback. All videos will be kept private between the learner and the teacher. More instructions can be found in the Outschool Classroom prior to class beginning to allow Parents to help Learners set this up.

6. SUPER IMPORTANT!! Please check your Zoom Audio Settings. I may not be able to hear your learner’s piano, if your Audio is not set correctly. You can do this by logging into Zoom | Host a Meeting (or wait to adjust when in our first class) | Click on the Microphone and select “Audio Settings” | Under Audio Profile select “Original sound for musicians” | Then under that select “High-fidelity music mode”
