Learners will:
(1) Learn concepts related to communication, conversation, and language.
(2) Practice use of these concepts.
(3) Converse and build rapport with other learners.

In a nutshell: I'm a speech-language pathologist and educator; I have a graduate degree in education and an undergraduate degree in linguistics with a specialization in sociolinguistics; I have a background that combines clinical work, research, and school experience. Content chosen based on 30+ years in the fields of linguistics, education, special education, and speech-language pathology. Learners are also invited to ask me to cover particular topics that confuse them in regards to social interaction, language, and communication. For example, I've had learners in this class ask me to cover topics such as jargon, being ignored socially, accents, and idioms. I am more than happy to take suggestions - because this class is grounded in real-world situations and how we communicate with each other.
