友達と読書：サマー読書キャンプ

In this 3x a week Summer course, learners will be introduced to emergent reading skills such as phonological awareness which involves using sounds to decode and blend when reading. Other emergent/beginning reading skills include print awareness where learners recognize print and follow words on a page. We will also be working on many other skills such as making word families, rhyming words, etc. Students will be taught and supported by a licensed teacher with over 13 years of teaching experience in an elementary public school. This class meets three times a week.

Our classroom environment will be one that supports learners in a fun and engaging way! Students will supported in the following ways;

✅ Engaging and appropriate lessons for this age group. We will often refer to each other as "Reading Friends" or "Reading Pals." A fun classroom environment through fun activities and games will be apart of our curriculum to keep students motivated.

✅ Ensuring that students are getting opportunities to have their individual learner needs met while also getting opportunities to collaborate as a group.

✅ Assistance with using emergent reading skills when sounding out words, print motivation and awareness, using word families, one syllable words, etc. The list goes on!

✅ Opportunities to bridge the class-to-home gap through homework activities that support learning retention. 

Each learner is expected to have prior knowledge of identifying and recognizing all letters of the alphabet and each sound.

June 12, 14, 16: Let’s Find Sounds! 
June 19, 21, 23: Blends 
June 26, 28, 30: Digraphs
