読書プライベートレッスン - 8 週間コース - 1 対 1。

In this class, your child will be practicing reading skills centered around a specific goal. Perhaps a teacher has raised an area of concern and you would like your child to practice more. I will be providing the texts so that children and I can work together. Comprehension questions and tips on how to improve reading, reading aloud and answering exam type questions are also skills that can be addressed depending on the focus requested by the parent. 

Your child will receive an individualized lesson. I am a very experienced teacher and good at what I do so can adapt to what your child needs. Writing is an essential skill in their academic toolkit and helps with all areas of the curriculum and their daily life. 

Lessons will be focused around texts that are differentiated for the individual learner. 

I also support the 'simple view of reading' formula - strong comprehension skills cannot occur unless learners have sound decoding skills and language comprehension skills (Gough and Turner, 1986)

I will be:
- Developing goals for every reader. 
- Supporting decoding skills and strategies
- EAK - Enhancing alphabet knowledge - name and sound of each letter, recognizing letters in a text, writing individual letter. Learners will understand that not all letters are created equal - some need more practice. 
- High frequency words / vocabulary appropriate for your learner's age.
- Implementing step-by-step strategies for skilled reading during lesson time.
- Guiding readers through different levels of reading texts and a variety of texts from fiction to non-fiction.
- Vocabulary explanation and application.
- Scaffolding the comprehension skills of thinking, reasoning, imagining and interpreting. 
- Comprehension skills support - inference, technical, author's intent and retrieval question exploration. 
- Critical thinking skills, encouraging your to read and analyze a text critically, breaking it down into its component parts and assessing its strengths and weaknesses. It also helps children to understand the author's purpose in writing the text while making text-to-text connections. 
- Prosody, which involves using the appropriate rhythm, emphasis, pitch, tone, and timing to breathe life into the words you're reading and convey meaning.

This is a great class for general improvement but also for children who excel at reading or those children who feel that they are not progressing at fast as their peer groups and are losing interest in reading.
