Our classes will be geared towards helping students learn how to read. I will begin to teach lessons with phonemic awareness, blending, and segmenting sounds. We will read a text together and focus on any rhyming words. During class, we will use a visual and auditory practice of letters and sounds. We will do a few minutes of word work, manipulating letters to build words, and then read connected text. Learners will interact with me using slides and whiteboards. Furthermore, in our lesson we will play games that will encourage practice of the skill we are working on. Weekly practice will be on each letter of the alphabet. Letters A-Z will be our focus in the beginning. Once we have gone through the entire alphabet letters and sounds. We will begin to practice phonemes: a, m, s, t, vc/cvc, p, f, i, n, cvc (i, a), etc. Weekly Agenda: Week of February 12th - Week 1 - Aa Week of February 26th - Week 2 - Bb Week of March 4th - Week 3 - Cc Week of March 11th - Week 4 - Dd Week of March 18th - Week 5 - Ee Week of March 25th - Week 6 - Ff Week of April 1st - Week 7 - Gg Week of April 8th - Week 8 - Hh Week of April 15th - Week 9 - Ii Week of April 22nd - Week 10 - Jj *No Class Week of April 29th* Week of May 5th- Week 11 - Kk Week of May 12th - Week 12 - Ll **Weeks to follow will be updated as the time approaches. The order of the practice in these letters and phonemes stems from the suggested order based upon the Science of Reading research based program provided by the University of Florida Literacy Institute. There are no materials required. I will provide slides that the learner can practice while offline with an adult at home.
